The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) is there for workers that have lost* their jobs and want to claim against this fund for compensation (much like you would with normal insurance when for example, your car is stolen. It is also available for maternity an illness benefits too.*
UIF: HOW DO I CLAIM?
The labour department of South Africa has moved with technology and is now fully functional online. Here are (some) steps on how to claim. Not all the steps are shown because personal information needs to be protected.
STEP 1: Go to the website
STEP 2: Click on the UIF benefits button. and click on unemployment benefits
Step3: Look over the process of what needs to be done
STEP 4: Register on the website:
Step 5: Agree to the terms and conditions. PLEASE read them BEFORE proceeding
Step 6: Fill in your details
Step 7: Click on register and follow the prompts to complete your registrations.
The following are documents that you may require before submitting your claim. This is not an exact list but a guideline for you to start with.
- Latest payslips (suggested 3) – proving you have been paying. (Conditions of income apply)
- Bank statements (3 months proving you have not been getting a salary)
- UI-19 signed by employer
- ID Book or Smart ID card
