Dreams and goals
Famous words indeed. They have a decreasing impact as time goes on. These words can not only be used for countries but businesses and individuals alike.
Sitting around a table on more than occasion, discussing the ins and outs of corporate life, I have said one thing that scares people. You have to dream but you have to dream bigger than you could ever think possible. As te saying goes:
“If your dreams does not scare you, it is not big enough!”
After asking what that would look like, the response is “I don’t know, I have never thought about it”.
Business life
Do you have dreams for your business? What was that “crazy goal or dream” that made you take the plunge into business? Have you reached that goal?
There are 2 types of these “crazy dreams’:
1. Financial freedom. Basically more money.
2. Freedom of time.
Financial freedom is more intricate to quantify because, as the saying goes, everyone is different. The range involved could be from earn enough to support your family to build an empire and retire in 5 years.
The second one is fairly simple to picture. Being able to do what you need (or want) to do when you need (or want) to do it.
Dreams in Action:
Take this simple situation as an example. A family made up of 2 parents and 2 young children. After working for a company for many years, dad was retrenched. He had a dream of running his own business and went for it! He is running his own business, and has done for over 5 years. He started on his own because he wanted to spend more time with his kids. With planning, he now attends special days at the school and fetches the kids from school earlier than he used to and can spend time with them. This situation alleviates pressure from mom who works full time. He goes shopping etc when he can.
His action from the plan astounds people because they do not understand how he did it and cannot believe it was possible. Some doubted that he would ever do it.
Dreams are always possible, no matter how “crazy” they are. What you set in motion today will change everything later down the line.
“To accomplish something extraordinary, one must have an extraordinary dream. A goal so high, a journey so demanding that its achievement to most seems impossible” Ironman quote.
